30 Years of MicroSkills

30th Anniversary

Last month, on April 7th,  MicroSkills celebrated 30 years of building better futures in our community. We have accomplished this with a spirit that is similar to Yahoo!’s CEO, Marissa Mayer, who said:

I always did something I was a little not ready to do. I think that’s how you grow. When there’s that moment of ‘Wow, I’m not really sure I can do this,’ and you push through those moments, that’s when you have a breakthrough.

That is exactly the spirit the employees of MicroSkills embody. Consider for a moment that our organization started in 1984 with 8 female clients in Etobicoke learning how to use micro film. 30 years later, we serve multiple communities across the GTA and serve over 21 000 women and their families.

Because we are an organization that isn’t afraid to respond to our communities’ needs, MicroSkills has expanded throughout the last thirty years while never backing down from challenges and always trying to figure out the best way to help our clients before worrying about whether or not it is a possibility.

We have expanded to offer women opportunities in IT, Entrepreneurship, child care, horticulture, and transportation. We are also able to help newcomers with bridging programs in accounting, supply chain awareness, and green economy as well as job search workshops and English language courses. We even help youth with homework clubs, as well as giving them an avenue to explore visual arts in a safe environment.

All of this is made possible by the It’s a pioneering spirit that we try to instill in our clients, volunteers, and especially our staff members. In order to survive, or better yet, excel, you must be willing to take chances and break new ground in whatever you’re dedicated to and this April we want to share our stories with everyone to help inspire new people.
